Don't get in the way. These ladies will mess you up in the roller derby rink with their signature move. It may look innocent in the photo, but they call it 'The Scissor Sister'.

Bichonnade Leaping

"Bichonnade Leaping" taken in 1905 by an 11 year-old Lartigue

"All the jumping and flying in Lartigue's photographs, it looks like the whole world at the turn of the century is on springs or something. There's a kind of spirit of liberation that's happening at the time and Lartigue matches that up with what stop action photography can do at the time, so you get these really dynamic pictures. And for Lartigue part of the joke, most of the time, is that these people look elegant but they are doing these crazy stunts."
- Kevin Moore (Lartigue biographer)

Not All Black And White...

The astonishingly non-boring color and texture combinations in Victorian fashion; proof positive...

"Nothing changes more than the notion of what is shocking".

..."The Victorians are the perpetual defendants in a kangaroo court presided over by the present – so often indicted and rehabilitated that the effort grows wearisome."
