This photo is interesting for corsets, I'm sure the two women would not be seen dead without laced stays.
The woman nearer the camera - you can see the ridge caused by her stays remaining more upright than her when she bends over.
The one further from the camera (younger, more emancipated? less rigid corset?) is both bending and twisting her shoulders - probably difficult in a really stiff and tight pair of stays?
These are my opinions - please feel free to enter the debate, perhaps I am wrong?
